What I am vibing?

This post is dedicated to my obsessions of the moment. At this moment I am totally obsessed with Eucalyptus Oil. I have always loved the pure, crisp, alive, instantly awake, fall asleep safe, feel better, scent of eucalyptus. I remember using it on my babies pillows to ease congestion way before I knew so much about many uses of this amazing tree. The scent is said to heal a home of negative energy, induce health and speed the healing process. Its used for cuts, sores, burns and blisters, muscle aches and pains, poor circulation and joint pain. I use it mostly for respiratory problems.
Over the past year, my obsession has led me to create Breathe, a pillow and room spray, which I use on everything in my room, especially during the winter months when I can't fling open the windows as I am prone to doing. I have used this spray every day during the last few months, on my pillow and sheets, laundry, in my closet, in my drawers and in my humidifier. I have also used Breathe on my mattress because it prevent and kills dust mites and even bed bugs, you can never be too sure! I love this spray!

Diaper rashes

Woke up yesterday morning to my 16 month old, Shiloh with a diaper rash. I have been teaching classes on treating a diaper rash and knew that along with keeping the diaper off and scrutinizing what he was eating that I needed a topical treatment. I wanted to share with you what I made. I had some Calendula, Yarrow, Comfrey and Thyme soaking in Olive oil and used this with beeswax to create a healing diaper rash balm. Its great to have these soothing, herbs on hand. My advice is to get a jar and soak any or all of the above in olive oil so that you can use when necessary.

I decided to hold off on writing this post until today because I wanted to give report on the results. By the first application, I noticed his skin responding well. By the third application, the rash was completely gone. By this morning, no sign of it ever being there. However, I will continue to apply the balm for the next few days. The key to treating diaper rash, is to attack it at the first sign. This balm can be used every time you change baby to prevent any rashes in the first place!

Thyme

I am currently working with herbs that are easily available with my clients and today I am sharing some of the uses of Thyme with you..

Here is some history on how Thyme was used in the past. Do you need courage? Burn some thyme, the ancient Greeks did. They also took baths with it for the same purpose. The Romans used it to purify their rooms. Europeans in the middle Ages placed it beneath pillows to aid sleep and ward off nightmares. I should try this with my eight year old. Thyme was also used as incense and placed on coffins during funerals as it was supposed to assure passage into the next life.

I have used time in my practice for gum infections, coughs and colds, respiratory infections and fungal infections such as ringworm and athletes foot. Because of it is antiseptic qualities, thyme boiled in water and cooled is very effective against inflammation of the throat when gargled 3 times a day. The inflammation will normally disappear in 2 - 5 days. I have used Thyme in combination with Usnea with my eleven year old who is prone to developing a sore throat.

Did you also know that Thymol which is derived from Thyme an antiseptic, is the main active ingredient in Listerine mouthwash?

In traditional Jamaican childbirth practice, thyme tea is given to the mother after delivery of the baby. Its oxytocin-like effect causes uterine contractions and more rapid delivery of the placenta.
